AI VS a real web/graphic designer

I’m going to try my best to NOT use AI to look over this article after I write it, to NOT use AI to give me the SEO needed to make this post perform. In fact – if I do this right, writing this article myself may prove to be more beneficial than most things I’ve been taught in the past several years.

Time are changing quickly with AI. I use Chat GPT every single day at this point. It helps look over my emails prior to sending, it knows code, it even knows how to fix broken CSS in a moments notice. However, the one thing it cant do is replace a creative individuals mind.

I’ve had fights with Chat, and have told it over and over what style I like just to test it and guess what? Luckily – so far… It cannot replace me! (not yet anyway…) Perhaps one day with the right training it will. It would need to trace every move, every pixel, every thought we have while working on the project, every reason we had for doing what we did.

What’s different?

Let’s say I give Chat 5 images, and a logo and say make me a social media post – Of course I use other prompts but the gist is that no matter how far I drill down on what I want, it gets stumped and it seems the more I tell it no, that’s not correct or that’s not the logo, it generally gives up. I realized one day last week that I spent over an hour trying to get it to do what I wanted – and thought – how foolish – I should have done it myself!

For logo ideas, its great – For layout ideas, its great but doing the actual work, its not even close to an actual graphic designer. And I’m not just talking about myself here – I have a great friend named Paul who’s work is phenomenal – there’s just no comparison.

Great for ideas – but guess what – they aren’t vectors AND in addition… they don’t use actual fonts.

What does that mean?

When creating a logo you need to create it as a vector in a program such as Adobe illustrator. This leads people like me to have to trace what was given to us – which can lead to problems, especially because it creates its own fonts so you cant use it anywhere else.

In closing, this article would have been much longer and chock full of keywords, but this is real talk from a true graphic artist and website designer of over 25 years. I embrace change and am riding the wave right along with everyone else, but please know that when you really want something original and done right that doesn’t scream AI made this, hire someone with experience! It pays off it more ways than you know.
